“ This place has a very special & unique menu! People usually order 3-4 dishes with a start, entree, and dessert. I ordered the lobster salad, Filet of Beef, and Cheesecake. Lobster Salad & Filet of Beef: 10/10. Highly recommend! They were both amazing and the presentation was phenomenal. Cheesecake: 6/10. It honestly didn't taste like cheesecake and more like a strawberry cream cake with a very hard base that wasn't fun to bite through. Cheese Offerings were also an interesting touch and conversation starter since we ranked our favorite & least favorite ones. ”
“ Hard to believe that I've lived in the city for 20+ years and it's only my first time dining here at Gary Danko. Decided to come here for a birthday celebration and my experience was phenomenal. Reservation for 2 was relatively easy to make for a Friday night. Upon arrival, we were seated at the bar for some drinks. Started the night with some champagne and about 10 minutes later, our table was ready. The menu was a bit confusing since I did not research the restaurant before booking; however, our server did an excellent job explaining the concept and it was smooth sailing from there on. -Signature Buckwheat Blini w/ Caviar - flavorful bite, so delicious! -Glazed Oysters w/ Osetra Caviar - soft texture went well with the warm fondue -Scallops with Carrot Top Pesto Couscous - Scallops was my fav this time! -Quail Stuffed with Golden Beets - Quail was a little too salty for my bland palate; however, very yummy -Moroccan Herbed Lamb - was a little gamey but enjoyed every bite Right before I was seated, I ordered an Espresso Martini. Vincent, bartender at the time did not forget. Halfway through my 3rd course, he gracefully brings my drink over with impeccable timing. Espresso Martini was the perfect mid-course pick me up because the food was so delicious I was falling into a food coma. 10/10 would recommend this restaurant for a special night. Great food, excellent service and dishes are beautifully plated. Can't wait for my next visit to try other items on the menu! ”
“ We had such a lovely dinner at Gary danko. The service was impeccable - chairs were pulled out, wine was quickly filled as soon as your glass was empty and they even offered reading glasses for perusing the menus. The space is charming and feels sort of old San Francisco. We loved everything we ate but especially enjoyed the cheese selection and desserts. I will definitely be returning! ”
“ We attempted to make a reservation at the restaurant on February 13, but they were fully booked. Fortunately, we managed to secure a spot in the end, our daughter's birthday party went very well! The service was exceptional, and the food was delicious. Thank to everyone who made us feel special on this day! ”
“ Absolutely phenomenal. We went to Gary Danko to celebrate my parents 25th Anniversary and we could not have chosen better! First off, this is the best service I've ever had at a fine dining establishment, period. The staff were attentive, pleasant, and went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction with the experience. The food was nothing short of incredible. While we were ambitious in deciding to do the customized five course menu, the portions were generous and three out of the four of us had to cut out the cheese course, lol. To start, I really enjoyed my glazed oyster. It was umami and briny, really fresh! Next, the roasted lobster was done to buttery perfection. The duck breast was similarly well cooked, and I loved the different additions on the plate. Especially the hash cake with confit duck! I also highly recommend the quail! I kept stealing bites from my mom's plate. My dad's the only one that got the cheese course, but the staff were kind enough to carve bigger portions in case we wanted to try some (we did...)! Dessert was another success! I will say, by this course, I was stretching to make room in my stomach with all I'd eaten thus far. I got the pavlova, with a delicate meringue like shell, and a bright sorbet on the bottom. I really also enjoyed the complimentary assorted desserts they gave us, especially the chocolate hazelnut one. And I definitely enjoyed bites of the creamy crème brûlée and the French toast. We were so full that we had to take the anniversary chocolate cake home, rest assured it was demolished on the kitchen counter the next day! They even send us home with a bag of goodies to celebrate. I hope to see Gary Danko back on the Michelin List soon! It certainty deserves it!! ”
“ Since my last visit in 2018 I have returned to give my recommendation of this place once again, never disappointing. If you are looking to have a wonderful dinner dining on the essence of superb French cuisine this is the place. If you are looking for GD to provide a venue for your next private event this is the place. From the very first time I stepped foot into this establishment in 2008 and us being fussed over, it made an impression. They fuss over all the guests. Again, if you are looking for one of the most spectacular venues/ restaurants in the City...this is your place. Located right in Fisherman's Wharf. The first time I was told about this place was from a well known celebrity that was filming in SF in 2001. I was in the movie and they mentioned this place to me . I would then later come in and experience it on my own, so glad I did. Since then, I hosted 2 private events here ,and hands down it was the best of the best. Again, not enough words to express the wonderful ambiance and service in this establishment, truly serving award winning French cuisine. As they say in French " Vous serez enchanté par Gary Danko, le meilleur de la cuisine française! In other words, You will be enchanted with the cuisine at Gary Danko. Bon appétit!! ”
“ Amazing service! Went here with my family for my birthday and it truly did not disappoint. You need to set a reservation far out and there is no walk ins so be sure to keep that in mind. You are able to pick 3-5 course meal. We picked the 4 and ordered dessert after. The server continuously checked in on us. We did not do the wine pairing but ordered cocktails, they were great and refreshing! My favorites were the beef and duck. Super tender and juicy. Although the platings seemed small at first, due to all the courses you get to try a bite of everything! We received bread and soup at the beginning of our meal before our regular courses. The soufflé was soft and chocolatey, would recommend for an occasion or a date night. 10/10!!! ”
“ What a wonderful experience. We came in 10 mins before our table and the host let us park right outside the restaurant. She took my coat and scarf and then took us to our table. We ordered the four course and in the mean time ordered our drinks. The food and service was incredible. Be prepared to eat around 2 hours as they course out the meal for you. I ordered the glazed oysters (my fave), the lobster, the filet, and the souffle. I loved the bread and everything tasted amazing. Our server was named Gil and he along with his team kept everything flowing. I hope to come back soon. ”
“ I've heard of this restaurant many years ago from Anthony Bourdain and had a chance to finally try it on our recent visit to San Francisco and was extremely pleased with the food and service. It exceeded my expectations with cost and quality of food. The waiter and staff are very friendly. The restaurant is very cozy and has casual feel. I think this restaurant deserves a Michelin star . ”
“ If a restaurant had an NBA All-Star team, the Gary Danko staff would be it. The service was excellent. Everybody was always very attentive and pleasant. Shout out to Aaron who made our night extremely special. The staff were excited to see you, walked you through all of the menu, and suggestions of their own. They are truly world class! We picked the five course option where we could pick any five dishes from any of the categories. We regrettably forgot what we ordered because the menu changes every night however we ordered a dish with duck, beef, and lobster that were separate adventures in themselves. The taste, texture, and presentation of every dish, made it a piece of art for the eyes and for the palate. The atmosphere inside is very lively, and some may consider it loud; however, it adds to the entire experience as you can have a private conversation and still nobody would ever be able to make out what you said so you can truly be yourselves and be open and have great meaningful conversations. A+ for food and effort ! ”
